commentThe Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute recently announced the winners of its biennial 2010 CRSI Design Awards program.
For more than 37 years, the CRSI Design Awards program has honored excellence in reinforced concrete structures and acknowledged its designers. The CRSI Design Awards program is open to architects, engineers, contractors and fabricators.
Midwest winners are as follows:
•The New I-35W Bridge, Minneapolis,; Minn. Submitted by FIGG, Tallahassee, Fla. Reinforcing bar fabricated by Simcote, Inc., St. Paul, Minn., and Gerdau Ameristeel, West Allis, Wis.
Residential Buildings - Award Winner
•Trump International Hotel & Tower – Chicago. Submitted by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, LLP, Chicago. Reinforcing bar fabricated by Ambassador Steel Corporation, Rochelle, Ill., and Auburn, Ind.
•Ravine House, Fox Point, Wis. Submitted by Pierce Engineers Inc, Milwaukee, Wis. Reinforcing bar fabricated by Gerdau Ameristeel, Madison, Wis.
Entries were evaluated on aesthetics, innovation, engineering achievement, functional excellence and economy of construction.
Bob Risser, CRSI president, said, “The inherently flexible properties of reinforced concrete enables professionals to express their unique vision in building and bridge projects.
“The CRSI Design Awards program recognizes designers for their creativity in using this great material.”
