Winners Named
Five Midwest projects recently received national attention
recently by winning the Aon Build America Awards:
The CPR LaCrosse
Bascule Bridge Replacement project in Wisconsin: Plain, Wis.-based Edward Kraemer
& Sons won a Merit Award in the Municipal & Utilities Renovation category.
The Olmsted Dam Approach Walls project in downstate Illinois: Kansas City,
Mo.-based Massman Construction Co. won in the Federal & Heavy New category.
The St. Luke's Medical Center-Cardiac Care Center and Patient Tower project
in Milwaukee: Appleton, Wis.-based The Boldt Co. won a Merit Award in the Building
New category.
The Treatment Plant Upgrade & Expansion project
in Lafayette, Ind.: Indianapolis-based Bowen Engineering Corp. won in the Municipal
& Utilities Renovation category.
The Steven F. Udvar - Hazy Center
National Air and Space Museum project in Appleton: Greeley, Colo.-based Hensel
Phelps Construction Co. won a Merit Award in the Building New category.
There
were 18 other winners outside of Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin.
Overall,
more than 80 submissions were received.
The winners were announced at the
recent Associated General Contractors 2005 Annual Convention in Las Vegas.
Books Make Spanish Clear for Builders Two new publications from the American
Road & Transportation Builders Association in Washington, D.C., and the National
Association of Women in Construction Fort Worth, Texas, might make a job easier.
The
pocket-size Spanish-English dictionary featuring more than 1,400 words and terms
used on construction jobsites is available for $13.
The "Spanish-English
Construction Communication" book, which sells for $28, contains thousands
of words broken into lists of safety terms, related slang and common sentences
related to each phase of construction.

Fox
Valley AGC Changes Name It's the same wine in a new bottle.
The
St. Charles-based Fox Valley Associated General Contractors is the slightly changed
name of the group formerly known as the Fox Valley General Contractors Association.
The
change was made to reflect the group's affiliation with the Arlington, Va.-based
Associated General Contractors of America Inc.
Healy
to Lead CRSI John Healy was appointed president of the Schaumburg-based Concrete
Reinforcing Steel Institute.
He was previously president of two other associations,
the Arlington, Va.-based National Pallet and Container Association and the Minneapolis-based
Grain Elevator & Processing Society.

Wisconsin
Engineer To Head Safety Group Jack Dobson Jr., manager of occupational safety
and health for Port Washington, Wis.-based Simplicity Manufacturing Inc., was
elected to serve as the 2005-06 president of the Des Plaines-based American Society
of Safety Engineers.
He succeeds Gene Barfield, director of professional
safety, health and environmental services for Lafayette, La.-based Acadian Integrated
Solutions.
