Six Projects Honored in Wisconsin for Engineering
Six finalists were chosen for Engineering Excellence Awards,
announced the American Council of Engineering Cos. of Wisconsin:
Greater Bayfield Wastewater Treatment Plant: Strand Associates
Inc. was recognized for a project that surpasses regulatory
requirements, while being both efficient and environmentally
sensitive.
Little Lake Butte des Morts Trail: Graef, Anhalt, Schloemer
& Associates. Inc. was recognized for the design of a
successful recreational trail project that serves as a physical
and symbolic link between two growing communities situated
on opposites of the lake.
Marquette Interchange - North Leg: Milwaukee Transportation
Partners, a joint effort between CH2M Hill Inc. and HNTB Corp.,
was recognized for its lead design role that delivered the
mega project with minimal impacts to the community and within
an aggressive two-year schedule.
Olde Stone Quarry Harbor of Refuge: STS Consultants Ltd.
was honored for designing the $4.1 million harbor of refuge
and protected boat access at an old stone quarry.
Shorewood Downspout Disconnection Project: Bonestroo, Rosene,
Anderlik & Associates Inc. was recognized for its unconventional
and effective method of reducing the amount of stormwater
that enters the sewer system, while beautifying homes and
public space at the same time.
Southpoint Commerce Park Regional Stormwater Facility: Earth
Tech Inc. was recognized for its creative engineering solutions
in the planning, design, and construction of the stormwater
facility. The project demonstrates green, sustainable components
can be effectively incorporated into regional stormwater management
facilities.
The nine-member judging panel selected the finalists from
the submittals that achieved a specific point value. One winner
was to receive the Grand Award.
ARTBA Accepting Applications for
Highway Memorial Scholarship
The Washington, D.C.-based American Road & Transportation
Builders Association Transportation Development Foundation
is accepting applications for the 2007 Highway Worker Memorial
Scholarship.
The program provides financial assistance to help the children
of highway construction workers killed or permanently disabled
on the job pursue post-high school education.
Applicants must be the children of highway workers who have
died or become permanently disabled in roadway construction
zone accidents; the applicant's parent must have been employed
by a transportation construction firm or a transportation
public agency at the time of his or her death or disabling
injury; and the award must be used to attend a post-secondary
institution of learning that requires a high school diploma
or Graduate Equivalent Degree.
There are several criteria considered for selection of scholarship
recipients, including past academic performance, a typewritten
statement of no more than 200words, demonstrated need for
financial assistance to attend school and letters of recommendation.

2007 Officers Elected In Central Illinois
The Springfield-based Central Illinois Builders of AGC
recently elected its officers for 2007.
They comprise President John Meek, president of Bloomington-based
Felmley-Dickerson Co.; Senior Vice President Donald Evans,
president of Springfield-based Evans Construction Co.; Vice
President Stuart Broeren, president of Champaign-based Broeren
Russo Construction Co.;
Secretary/Treasurer Michael Blindauer, president of Springfield-based
BRH Builders & Constructors; and Specialty Contractor
Delegate Daniel Hoselton, president of Springfield-based
Henson Robinson Co.
The past president is Halden Schinzler, president of Decatur-based
Christy-Foltz Inc.
