ASA Wisconsin Names Honorees

The American Subcontractors Association of Wisconsin recently held its annual Recognition Dinner to recognize a number of organizations:

• Architect of the Year, Eppstein Uhen Architects, Milwaukee: The ASA says Eppstein Uhen was honored because of the quality of the firm’s designs, cooperation with technical problems and open-minded ways of interpreting and explaining problems.

• General Contractor of the Year, VJS Construction Services, Pewaukee, Wis.: VJS was honored for its efficient jobs, use of fair contracts, record for prompt payments, effective management practices and cooperativeness in dealing with change orders, the ASA says.

• Superintendent of the Year, Brian Marble, M.A. Mortenson Co., Brookfield, Wis.: The ASA says Marble is fair and builds great working relationships.

• Project Manager of the Year, Andy Rodenkirch, Hunzinger Construction Co., Brookfield: Rodenkirch is proactive, responsive and follows through on change-orders.




Nine Midwesterners Participate
in ARTBA’s Young Executive Program

Nine young Midwesterners in transportation design and construction participated in the American Road & Transportation Builders Association’s 12th annual Young Executive Development Program.

The three-day program focuses on the impact the federal government has on the industry and the role that ARTBA plays in shaping national transportation investment policy.

The YEDP program included sessions on the federal legislative and regulatory processes.

YEDP fellows also visited Capitol Hill and met with members of Congress to urge them to support fully funding federal surface transportation investment programs.
Participants in the program included:

• Eric Hedman, marketing manager, 3M, St. Paul, Minn.

• Daniel Herring, structural engineer, H.W. Lochner Inc., Chicago.

• Doug LaVoie, regional manager, Wilbur Smith Associates, Lansing, Mich.

• Greg Murphy, transportation planning manager, HNTB Ohio Inc., Columbus.

• Matthew Nardi, owner, Dennison Bridge Inc., Dennison, Ohio.

• Thomas Nelson Jr., vice president, CH2M Hill, Southfield, Mich.

• Ammar Salameh, project manager, Gannett Fleming Inc., Westerville, Ohio.

• Jason Tucker, project manager, The Great Lakes Construction Co., Hinckley, Ohio.

• James Webb, county engineer, Williamson County Highway Department, Marion, Ill.




Wisconsin Recognizes Several Construction Firms for Safety

Four companies in construction were recently honored with the Wisconsin Corporate Safety Awards.

They comprise AZCO Inc., Appleton; The Bold Co.; Appleton; Great Lakes Roofing Corp., Germantown; and Tweet Garot Mechanical Inc., Green Bay. In total, 21 firms throughout the state were recognized.

The awards are sponsored by the Wisconsin Council of Safety and the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Safety.

An independent panel of 54 judges, including leaders in business, health and safety, evaluated the 161 nominations based on injury incidence rates over the last three years, health and safety procedures, policies and accomplishments.




Thomas H. Madigan Award Goes to Shooting Complex


The Illinois Capital Development Board has awarded Collinsville-based AAIC Inc. its Thomas H. Madigan Award for New Construction for the design of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources’ World Shooting & Recreational Complex near Sparta, Ill.

The 1,700-acre complex opened in summer 2006. AAIC provided programming and architectural, mechanical and electrical design for the WSRC’s structures.
The CDB is the construction management arm of Illinois’ state government. The Thomas H. Madigan Award for Outstanding New Construction is part of the CDB’s Pride in Partnership Award program.
