The National Demolition Association and the Concrete Sawing & Drilling Association have reached a reciprocal association agreement that will promote the exchange of information between the groups to enhance the safety and professionalism of their industries.
“Because our industries often work closely together, we think a reciprocal alliance will benefit both groups,” says Michael R. Taylor, CAE, Executive Director of the National Demolition Association.
“We think it’s natural to encourage a closer working relationship between our associations to foster a spirit of cooperation,” adds Patrick O’Brien, executive director of the Conerete Sawing and Drilling Association.
The Concrete Sawing & Drilling Association is an international organization of more than 550 contractor, manufacturer, distributor and affiliated member companies from the concrete construction and renovation industry.
Its mission is to promote sawing and drilling contractors and their methods, as well to provide a forum for members to share their ideas, needs and concerns in a constructive framework to further enhance concrete sawing and drilling technologies.
The National Demolition Association is a global trade organization representing the demolition industry. The association currently has more than 1,100 companies in the United States and Canada, as well as many companies from around the world.
Its members include not only demolition contractors, but also general contractors, civil engineering firms and recycling, landfill and salvage operations.
CSDA has been fostering a spirit of cooperation with other associations since 1993 when it was instrumental in creating the International Association of Concrete Drillers and Sawers.
Concrete Industry Management (CIM) Program Announces New Officers
The National Steering Committee for the Concrete Industry Management (CIM) program—a business intensive program that awards students with a four-year bachelor of science degree in concrete industry management—elected new officers during its recent annual meeting.
The newly elected officers, who began their terms July 1, are the following:
• Chairman—Michael Schneider of Baker Concrete Construction Inc.;
• Vice Chairman—R. Frank Craddock of Cemex Inc.;
• Secretary/Treasurer—Michael Harlan of US Concrete; and
• Executive Director—Eugene Martineau, former CIM Chairman.
Martineau says the new leadership team will be at the forefront as the organization continues to improve and expand the program and prepares the concrete industry’s next generation of leaders.
Although the program will leave students with a solid, well-rounded education within a specific industry, it also provides them with the professional tools to go into any field.
Graduates of the CIM program are being hired for management positions throughout the concrete industry, including production, material supply, research, contracting and manufacturing.
Available at Middle Tennessee State University, Arizona State University, California State University, Chico, the New Jersey Institute of Technology and Texas State University, the program has been successful for both the industry and the graduates. More information about CIM is available at www.concretedegree.com.
