Partnership Selected to Manage O'Hare Redo
Chicago Aviation Partners, a joint-venture company, was selected
to be the program manager for phase one of the O'Hare International
Airport modernization, the Chicago Department of Procurement
Services announced.
Meantime, the city's most recent cost estimate for the project
is $14.8 billion - more than twice the original $6.6 billion
projection.
CAP consists of six firms: DMJM Aviation, McClier, CivCon
Services, McKissack & McKissack Midwest, Regina Webster
& Associates and Synchronous Solutions.
DMJM Aviation will serve as the lead firm. The company is
an international leader in the management of large infrastructure
airport development with particular emphasis on airfield facilities
at major airports such as Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson, Philadelphia
International, Denver International, Miami International and
Dallas/Fort Worth International.
Phase one projects that CAP will oversee include the following:
Detailed engineering and construction for three runway
projects: new northern runway 9L/27R, the extension of Runway
10L and the relocation of Runway 10C/28C
Enabling projects needed for the three runway projects
The Union Pacific Railroad relocation project
The South airfield detention basin
The O'Hare Modernization Program will reportedly create 195,000
jobs and generate an additional $18 billion for the region's
economy each year. Modernizing the airport will reportedly
improve efficiency, reducing weather related delays by 95
percent and overall delays by 79 percent, according to Procurement
Services.
Lakeshore Medical Center Planned Next
to Weiss
Lakeshore Medical Center will be constructed at 4700 Marine
Drive in Chicago, adjacent to Weiss Memorial Hospital on
the North Side.
Ground was broke early in 2004 for the six-story, 166,000-sq.-ft.
facility with projected occupancy early in 2005.
Lakeshore Medical Center will be linked directly to Weiss
Memorial Hospital through a shared steel and glass winter
garden. Patients and physicians will be able to access easily
outpatient services at Weiss via a pedway connecting to
a secure garage.
The Wellness Group LLC announced the plans.
New Water Market Coming to Pilsen
The New South Water Market at 2525 S. Blue Island in Chicago's
Pilsen neighborhood was announced.
The facility will host townhouses and produce, dairy, and
ethnic food vendors that cater to local and national businesses.
The 75,000-sq.-ft. distribution center will feature 44 external
docks protected by an overhead canopy with a height that
accommodates city delivery trucks.
The staging bays and building height reportedly allows more
efficient racking options and operations than formerly available
within the original South Water Market. Two drive-in doors
and two standard 4-ft. high docks will also be constructed.
Rosemont-based McShane Construction and project architect
Alan R. Schneider Architects will complete the design-build
project.
In addition to the base building renovation, McShane will
complete the 32,500-sq.-ft. suite for the building's anchor
tenant, Adelita Foods. The suite will include 27,000 sq.
ft. for warehouse/distribution, 1,300 sq. ft. of cooler/freezer
space, a 2,200-sq.-ft. retail outlet and an office.
Joliet Embarks on Infrastructure Upgrades
Due to rapid community growth and changing federal legislation,
the city of Joliet has embarked upon three major infrastructure
projects estimated at $100 million.
Almost half of the project will go toward potable water
treatment plants to reduce the naturally occurring radium
in the city's water supply to meet the lowered federal compliance
levels.
Approximately $30 million will be spent to construct a new
wastewater treatment plant in western Joliet to meet the
needs of city growth in that area. About $25 million will
be used for a combined sewer overflow project for eastern
Joliet, which will reduce the potential for discharging
pollutants into the Des Plaines River during major storms.
The local office of Madison, Wis.-based Strand Associates
Inc. was chosen to provide all design and construction engineering
services.
Office/Warehouse Starts At Intermodal
Facility
A 700,000-sq.-ft. office/warehouse is under construction
for DSC Logistics in Elwood near the CenterPoint Intermodal
Center.
Completion is expected in early July. Itasca-based FCL Builders
Inc. is the general contractor.
Currently operating in a facility in Des Plaines, DSC will
be relocating for growth purposes to the new structure.
The company will use the facility primarily to service its
Unilever Bestfoods North America account.
Founded in 1960, DSC Logistics is a supply chain management
company with a nationwide network.
Cargo Facility For O'Hare
Atlanta-based Seefried Properties has announced that it
will construct a 253,000-sq.-ft. logistics facility in Elk
Grove Village near O'Hare International Airport.
The facility is preleased to Houston-based EGL Eagle Global
Logistics. An obsolete facility on Busse Road is being razed
to make way for the new facility.
Site preparation has begun, and construction is expected
to start in the first quarter of 2004 and be complete in
December.
Retail Facility Planned For Naperville
Washington Place, a $1.6 million retail center, is under
construction in Naperville.
The single-story facility on Washington and Van Buren streets
will hold four retail spaces, two of which are leased.
Occupancy is scheduled for August.
