Build Indiana Winners Named
Winners of the Associated General Contractor of Indiana's
fifth annual BKD Build Indiana Awards competition were named:
Industrial: Pepper Construction Co. of Indiana LLC
for Eagle Creek 1 industrial park in Indianapolis
Private Sector: Deig Bros. Lumber & Construction
Co. Inc. for the Bristol-Myers Squib Fitness Center in Evansville
Public Sector: Powers & Sons Construction Co.
Inc. for the U.S. Steelyard Ballpark in Gary
Not-for-Profit: InterDesign for the Camp Belzer Center
for Volunteer Training in Lawrence
Renovation: Hagerman Construction Corp. for the Allen
County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne
Utility: Industrial Contractors Inc. for the Ventren-AB
Brown Unit No. 4 Gas Turbine in Evansville
Governor's Award: Wurster Construction Co. Inc. for
the Clarian People Mover Stations and Walkways in Indianapolis
In other news, the winners of the Amerisure Safety Awards
were named.
Indianapolis-based Pepper Construction Co. of Indiana and
Ermco Inc., also based in Indianapolis, received the Outstanding
Safety Program awards.
Construction Excellence In North Indiana Honored
Five construction firms in the Northwest Indiana area received
Excellence in Construction honors during the 55th annual Northwest
Construction Industry Banquet in Munster.
Chicago-based Berglund Construction was selected for Commercial
Project of the Year for the Center for Advanced Clinical Studies
at Methodist Hospital in Gary.
Berglund also received a second honor for Commercial Contractor
of the Year.
Munster-based BMW Constructors Inc. won the Industrial Project
of the Year for the selective catalyst reduction project at
Northern Indiana Public Service Co.'s Unit 12 in Michigan
City.
Hammond-based Engineered Constructors Inc. earned the Public
Works Project of the Year honor for the Lost Marsh Environmental
and Recreation Area, also in Hammond.
Portage-based Kvaerner Songer Inc. won honors for Industrial
Contractor of the Year, and PLI Engineering and Surveying
Inc., also of Portage, received the Subcontractor of the Year
award.
Upgrade Planned For Plastics Plant
GE Plastics is planning a $30 million expansion of its manufacturing
plant in Mount Vernon.
The company will convert a resin line into a unit that makes
specialty plastics. Construction is expected to begin in
May, and the facility will be shut for the conversion.
