$170M Expansion for Community North Hospital

Community North Hospital will embark on a $170 million renovation and addition to its campus on the North Side of Indianapolis.

Groundbreaking was planned for Nov. 15, with completion scheduled for early 2007.

The new project will include an 850,000-sq.-ft. expansion, including a six-story tower featuring a specialty women's and children's hospital and acute care private rooms. There will be 60 single room maternity suites - reportedly more than any other hospital in the country - a five-story medical office building and a six-story parking garage connected to the hospital.

Additionally, the existing hospital will be restructured and expanded to include next-generation surgical suites to accommodate robotics, new imaging, microscopy, light control and infection control technologies.

The project will include a medical concept not found anywhere else in the state: The hospital will be a paperless, digital facility and allow medical professionals to access patient information at bedside.

Indianapolis-based BSA LifeStructures has been awarded the structural, civil, mechanical and electrical engineering work.

Ground Broke for Purdue's 'E-Enterprise' Facility

Purdue University has broke ground for a center in its Discovery Park that will house several initiatives that focus faculty research on "super projects" and Indiana's economic development

The $10 million, 38,500-sq.-ft. e-Enterprise Center, which will be south of the Burton D. Morgan Center for Entrepreneurship, is scheduled to be completed by spring 2006.

The facility will be designed and engineered by the Indianapolis firm Brenner Design.

Besides the e-Enterprise Center, Discovery Park includes the Burton D. Morgan Center for Entrepreneurship, which is completed; Bindley Bioscience Center and the Birck Nanotechnology Center, which are under construction; and Discovery Learning Center. The new Biomedical Engineering Building also will be located in Discovery Park.
