Locked up For Daviess County Jail Construction of the 68,000-sq.-ft. Daviess
County Jail has started in Washington. The project is slated for completion
in June and is valued at $11 million. Work entails renovation of the
existing 12,000-sq.-ft. facility and construction of a new 22,000-sq.-ft. addition
with full basement for future use. The steel-framed building will feature a brick
facade with limestone accents. The project's renovation portion will
see the addition of a second story. The existing building, which previously housed
both jail cells and office space, will now comprise solely office space.
The addition will feature a large main level and a mezzanine level, both of which
will contain jail cells. A new arched entrance will connect the addition to the
existing building. Bloomington-based Weddle Bros. Construction Co. is
serving as general contractor, and Indianapolis-based RQAW is the project architect.
Warehouse
Facility To Rise in Portage Groundbreaking ceremonies were held recently
in Portage for a 72,000-sq.-ft. distribution and warehouse facility.
The building is being constructed on a 6-acre site in Ameriplex at the Port, with
immediate access to Interstate 94 and minutes away from the Indiana Toll Road.
The facility will be home to a pharmaceutical company. Deerfield, Ill.-based
Kiferbaum Construction is the general contractor.
Shiel Sexton Wins Safety Award Indianapolis-based Shiel
Sexton was awarded the Crystal Eagle Award, an award from the Metro Indianapolis
Coalition for Construction Safety, an organization crafted to certify companies
operating at a high level of safety performance. Shiel Sexton was reportedly
one of the earliest contractors in the state to qualify for the MICCS certification.
To certify, contractors must demonstrate a safety program that includes an
emergency action plan for every job site, a 13-point project-specific safety plan,
prequalification and classification of subcontractors and safety training for
non-English speaking workers in their native language.
