James Owens was promoted to
chairman and CEO of Peoria, Ill.-based Caterpillar
Inc. to replace the retiring Glen Barton. Owens was
previously group president.
Caterpillar Inc. is a manufacturer of construction and mining
equipment, clean diesel and natural gas engines and industrial
gas turbines.

Milwaukee-based CG Schmidt Inc. has announced Mike Abuls
was promoted to vice president. He was previously 1source
division manager. Doug Kitterman was named senior project
manager. He was previously with Appleton, Wis.-based Hoffman
Corp.
CG Schmidt Inc. provides general construction, construction
management and design-build services.

Thomas Braham, an architect with the Chicago-based design
firm Perkins & Will, has received the Dubin Family Young
Architect Award from the Chicago chapter of the American Institute
of Architects. The award was established to recognize individuals
between 29 and 39 years old who have demonstrated general
excellence and exceptional promise.

Richard Cavenaugh joined Chicago-based Fifield Cos. as executive
vice president, principal and chief operations officer. He
was previously president of Whiteco Residential LLC in Chicago.
Fifield Cos. is a developer.

The Thornton-Tomasetti Group Inc. in Chicago has announced
several promotions:
William Bast to senior vice president and Faz Ehsan, Carol
Post and Thomas Poulos to vice president. Also advanced were
Donald Hamlin to senior associate and Scott Nacheman, Helen
Torres, David Weihing and Adam Abbes Yala to associate. The
Thornton-Tomasetti Group is a structural engineering firm.

Indianapolis Downtown Inc. has announced the promotions of
Terry Sweeney to vice president of real estate development
from director of real estate development, Nicole Roberts to
real estate development manager from real estate coordinator
and Laura Hulen to beautification coordinator from beautification
assistant. Indianapolis Downtown Inc. is a nonprofit organization
promoting development in the Indiana city.

Joby Berman was named vice president and business director
in Chicago for Omaha, Neb.-based HDR Inc. She was previously
president of T.Y. Lin International in Chicago. HDR Inc. is
an architectural, engineering and consulting firm.

Phil Iverson was named director of business development in
Illinois for the Waukesha, Wis.-based Spancrete Group Inc.
He was previously technical director with the Chicago-based
Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute. The Spancrete Group
Inc. produces precast concrete components.

Milwaukee-based Kahler Slater has announced promotions to
the senior principal level: John Cain, Richard Eschner, Lawrence
Schnuck and Louis Stippich. Promotions to principal included
Barbara Armstrong, Kelly Gaglione, Joseph Heinowski, John
Horky, Daniel Morgan, Douglas Nysse, Jennifer Schlimgen, Stephen
Steen and Matthew Tendler. Kahler Slater is an architecture
firm.

Stephen Hoelter was promoted to project executive of Westmont,
Ill.-based Paul H. Schwendener Inc. He was previously a senior
project manager. Paul H. Schwendener Inc. offers construction
management and general contracting services.

John Daly was named vice president of health care service
for Rosemont, Ill.-based McShane Construction Corp. He was
previously vice president of sales for Fort Wayne, Ind.-based
Irmscher Construction. McShane Construction Corp. offers design-build
and build-to-suit services.

Mike Gorey was promoted to president of Carmel, Ind.-based
Firestone Building Products Co. and president and CEO of parent
BFS Diversified Products LLC with the retirement of Dave Grass.
Gorey was previously vice president of finance and corporate
controller for Bridgestone Americas Holding. Firestone Building
Products Co. is a manufacturer of commercial roofing systems
and products.

Ridge Miller has relocated to the Indianapolis headquarters
of Crowe Chizek and Co. LLC to direct the firm's construction,
architecture and engineering practice. He was previously based
in Nashville, Tenn. Crowe Chizek and Co. LLC is a public accounting
and consulting firm.

Golden Valley, Minn.-based Harmon Inc. has named Brian Rathke
senior project manager, Hans-Dieter Abramat project executive
and Tiffany Kramlich human resources manager, all of whom
will support the firm's locations nationwide. Rathke was previously
a manager for Chaska, Minn.-based John B. Goodman Limited
Partnership, Abramat was previously an estimating manager
for Miami-based Glassalum International Corp. and Kramlich
previously worked for Harmon on a contract basis. Harmon Inc.
provides glass services.

Todd Davis was named project manager in Lisle, Ill., for
Minneapolis-based Ryan Cos. US Inc. He was previously a project
manager for Westmont, Ill.-based Paul H. Schwendener Inc.
Ryan Cos. US Inc. is a design-build firm.

Buffalo, N.Y.-based Cannon Design has announced Gustavo Lima
will add the title of director of construction administration,
including for the firm's Chicago office, while continuing
as vice president. Wallace Whetham was named director of technical
quality and will also continue as a vice president. Cannon
Design is a planning and architecture firm.

Gregory Fisher was named business development manager for
the Alsip, Ill.-based Lombard Co. He was previously sales
manager for Rochelle, Ill.-based PBM Concrete. The Lombard
Co. is a general contractor.
