Tom Empric was named executive vice president of operations of Milwaukee-based CG Schmidt Inc. He was previously employed with Detroit-based Walbridge Aldinger Construction Co. CG Schmidt Inc. is a general contractor.

Rick Nelson promoted to vice president of Milwaukee-based Irgens Development Partners LLC. He was previously development director. Irgens Development Partners LLC provides real estate services.

Martha Frish was named associate director of the the Real Estate Center at DePaul University in Chicago. She was previously senior project manager with Chicago-based Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLC. The Real Estate Center provides academic training, continuing education and conferences.

Doug Reddington was promoted to vice president of Milwaukee-based BSA LifeStructures. has received certification from the American College of Healthcare Architects in Lenexa, Kan. The certification acknowledges his expertise in the design of health facilities. BSA LifeStructures is an architecture firm.

Amy Zimmerman was promoted to vice president of marketing for Chicago-based Republic Windows & Doors. She was previously director of marketing. Republic Windows & Doors is a manufacturer.

Deloitte & Touche LLP of New York has announced three hires in its Construction Advisory Services practice in Chicago: Dale Kern as director, Mark Evans as senior manager and John Cullian as senior manager. Kern was previously director of Chicago-based Navigant Consulting, Evans was previously senior engagement manager, also with Navigant, and Cullian was previously a principal, also with Navigant. Deloitte & Touche LLP provides audit, tax, consulting and financial advisory services.

Steven Nilles, principal with Chicago-based Lohan Caprile Goettsch Architects , was named as the official representative of the Chicago-based Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat to the National Fire Protection Association's High-Rise Building Safety Advisory Council in Quincy, Mass.

Elizabeth Churchill was named manager of sustainable design for Madison-based Marshall Erdman & Associates. She was previously landscape architect/site designer. Marshall Erdman & Associates provides design-build services.

Greg Nichelson , has joined Springfield-based Hanson Professional Services Inc. as a civil/railroad engineer. He was previously a civil engineer with URS Corp. in Tampa, Fla. Hanson Professional Services Inc. provides architectural, engineering and management services.

National Survey & Engineering of Brookfield, of Brookfield, Wis., has announced Steven Roncke and Gregory Kunz were promoted to the associate level of the firm's R.A. Smith & Associates Inc. company. Roncke is the lead engineering technician in the public works division, and Kunz is the surveying transportation manager. Ken Welden was promoted to senior project manager from project manager. National Survey & Engineering offers civil engineering, planning and surveying services.

Scott Cholewinski was named design manager of the Chicago office of Fond du Lac, Wis.-based Ahern Fire Protection. He was previously a design manager with Arlington Heights, Ill.-based Wolverine Fire. Ahern Fire Protection is a mechanical and fire protection contractor.

F.R. Rick Duran was named director of marketing and strategic alliances of Oakbrook Terrace-based
Construction Cost Systems Inc . and its sister company Owner Services Group Inc. He was previously managing principal of Winnetka-based The Archinomics Group Inc. Construction Cost Systems Inc. provides owner representation, project management and cost management.

Cotter Consulting Inc. of Chicago has announced that six employees have earned Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design accreditation from the U.S. Building Council in Washington, D.C.: Jan Turner, director of project management; Jan Rogatz, senior project manager, Joyce Scholefield, senior project manager; Mary DeRuntz, project manager; Heather McNitt, project manager; and Heather McNitt, and Sara Urizar, project manager. Accreditation recognizes expertise in green building design. Cotter Consulting Inc. provides project and construction management consulting services.

Kiferbaum Construction Corp. of Deerfield has announced Rhonda Howard was promoted to office manager from executive assistant. Peter Stadler was promoted to senior project manager from project manager.Carissa Vlahovich was promoted to project manager from project engineer II. The Chicagoland Sheet Metal Contractors Association of Bellwood has announced two members were elected to three-year terms on the Board of Directors: : John Comforte, , president of Climatemp Inc. in Chicago, and David Osterman, vice president with Villa Mechanical Inc. in Crestwood.

Patrick Engineering Inc. of Lisle has announced the acquisition of Albin Carlson & Co., a Melrose Park-based general contractor and concrete construction company. The Albin Carlson name and services will be maintained.

STS Consultants Ltd. of Vernon Hills is the recipient of the 2004 Private Sector Employer Recognition Award by the Illinois Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers. Selection was based on the support STS gives to the organization by fostering involvement and participation of engineers in activities, committees and groups. STS Consultants is an engineering consulting firm.

The Bentley Co. of Milwaukee has announced the recipients of its Vision Award: Waukesha-based Fred Kinateder Masonry, Milwaukee-based Heitman Inc. and Madison-based Klein-Dickert. The honor recognizes the winners' efforts in contributing to Bentley's becoming an improved general contractor.
