Names In The News - December 2008

HIRES

Brian McPartlin was named vice president of Chicago-based McDonough Associates. He was previously executive director of the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority in Downers Grove. McDonough is an engineering/architecture firm.

Valerie Barker Waller was named director of marketing and communications for Chicago 2016. She was previously vice president of marketing and communications for the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. Chicago 2016 is the organizing committee for the proposed 2016 Summer Olympics.

Alberici Constructors of St. Louis has announced the addition of four employees: John VanAsdale as director of business development in the health care and general building markets, David Frigo as director of estimating, Anthony Weber as estimator and Chris Enriquez as diversity manager. Previously, VanAsdale was vice president of business development for the Bick Group in Kansas City, Mo., Frigo was estimator with Meridian, Idaho-based Beniton Construction Co. and Weber was assistant project manager with Winfield Construction Inc. in Edwardsville, Ill. Enriquez continues in the firm as proposal services manager. Alberici is a contractor.

Thomas Fridstein was named managing principal in Chicago of New York-based Perkins Eastman. He was previously principal of New York-based RMJM Hiller and the group head of special projects of United Kingdom-based parent firm RMJM. Perkins Eastman is an architecture firm.

Daphne Sligh was named community affairs director in Chicago of New York-based Turner Construction Co. She was previously program manager with Chicago-based Exelon Corp. Turner is a contractor.

Shiel Sexton of Indianapolis has announced the additions of Todd Anderson as project manager and Tom Brissey as superintendent. Previously, Anderson was project manager with Indianapolis-based Lauth Property Group, and Brissey was construction coordinator for Indianapolis-based Eli Lilly & Co. Shiel Sexton is a contractor.

Gregory Hamilton was named senior associate in Milwaukee of Minneapolis-based HGA Architects and Engineers. He was previously project executive with Brookfield, Wis.-based Hammes Co. HGA is a design and engineering firm.

Susan Lane was named program manager for bridges and other transportation structures by the Skokie-based Portland Cement Association. She was previously manger of codes and standards for the American Society of Civil Engineers in Reston, Va.

SmithGroup of Detroit has announced the additions of Brian Bilski as job captain/manager of technical services and Kenneth Novak as project manager and associate. Previously, Bilski was project designer/technical coordinator of Chicago-based Solomon Cordwell Buenz, and Novak was vice president of design and construction-consulting services of Jones Lang LaSalle in Chicago. SmithGroup is a design firm.

PROMOTIONS

Thornton Tomasetti Inc. of New York has announced the promotions of four in Chicago: Carol Post and Thomas Poulos, each to senior vice president/principal from vice president/principal, and Garret Browne and David Wiehing, each to vice president from senior associate. Thornton Tomasetti provides engineering services.

BMW Constructors Inc. of Indianapolis has announced the promotions of Brian Acton to executive vice president and Keith Brennan to general manager. Previously, Acton was president of Seattle-based wholly owned subsidiary BMWC Constructors Inc., and Brennan was a project manager. BMW is a contractor primarily serving the industrial and commercial markets.

Andrew Schultz was named construction services municipal group manager in the construction services division of Brookfield, Wis.-based R.A. Smith National. He was previously project engineer. R.A. Smith provides civil engineering, planning and other services.

SmithGroup of Detroit has announced the promotions of two to associate in Chicago, Bob Kempa and Naomi White. Kempa is project manager, and White is health planner and interior designer. SmithGroup is a design firm.

Tarlton Corp. of St. Louis has announced the promotions of four, Jeff Freese and Chris Kestner to senior project manager and Cameron Beattie and Cameron Denison to project manager. Preivously, Freese and Kestner were project managers, and Beattie and Denison were project engineers. Tarlton is a contractor.

HONORS & APPOINTMENTS

Gregs Thomopulos, chairman and CEO of Muscatine, Iowa-based Stanley Consultants, has been elected President-Elect of the International Federation of Consulting Engineers. Stanley, which has an office in Chicago, provides engineering and construction services.

Angie Lee, vice president and Workplace Studio leader in Chicago of Detroit-based SmithGroup, was elected to the board of directors. SmithGroup is a design firm.

COMPANY NEWS

Epstein is the new name of the Chicago-based company formerly known as A. Epstein and Sons International Inc. The change reflects the fact that the company is owned by employees, rather than founders the Epstein family. Epstein provides architecture, engineering and construction services.

Iconica is the new name of the Madison, Wis.-based firm formerly known as Planning Design Build. The change was made to reflect the firm’s mission. Iconica provides architectural, contracting and other services.
